still very much a manual process which involves all aspects of the
page/website design. So to make your website stand out from the
crowd the first process must be to decide on your chosen
keywords i.e.. what words you want the search engines to list

engines to find you (These should be the same but not necessarily
e.g.. different spellings optimisation as opposed to optimization) |

| keeping it simple is the prime requirement when designing a website if you want search engines to find and then index you for your keywords. Over the years we tried a variety of design techniques including an unsuccessful FLASH based design which was very pretty but difficult to navigate and too slow for the maximum download speed of the time e.g.. 33.6kps. This latest site uses tables to speed up the loading process, doing this means that you do not see a blank page while the whole page is loaded but each table loads in sequence giving the surfer something to see while the rest of the page loads. What this lets you do is have large pages which load relatively quickly and large pages mean lots of text which can only help your search engine position. |

search engines until very recently worked very simply and could only really work with the website's page text. So all the fancy graphics and page layouts did nothing to enhance your position on the search engines (in many respects this still remains true). so your search engine position is determined by the text on the page, search engines work on keywords typed into their search boxes and a text matching process occurs but to complicate the issue many search engines use a variety of other factors in determining your position on their listings e.g.. where the text appears on the page, how often, link popularity etc. etc. |

ok we all hate spam and so do the search engines so avoid the temptation to load your pages with just keywords if a search engine decides that this is your intention to achieve a top ten listing then you could find your website dropped from their listings. also beware of many of these automated website design tools they generally work on generating what is called doorway pages which are just keyword loaded pages to skew search engine results and hence generate visitors to your site, you can get your site banned for using these as well. |

once upon a time the keyword meta tag was king but not anymore the majority of search engines no longer include it's contents to determine a website's relevance to the search process. But the description meta tag is important and this could determine your overall position so care should be taken on how you construct this. There are a number of other tags but they concentrate on how a search engine should visit your website + housekeeping e.g.. copyright, author etc. |
