The main purpose is to support activities in the global telecommunications software arena. You will be responsible for performing part of the software development cycle (from software integration, documentation and verification to field trial assistance) within the UMTS Access Stratum section. Working as a team member you will be expected to provide software problem solving capability within the Integration team. High motivation and good analytical skill are essential along with inter-personal skills, since the job involves frequent interaction with other team members within the company.
Key functions
The main tasks expected to be performed include, but are not limited to:
Carrying out, with limited technical supervision, integration testing of software modules within UMTS section as per project plan.
Providing advice to the line manager and / or project managers for project planning and budgeting etc.
Assisting the other team members with their work, technically supporting some junior software engineers within the team.
Keeping up to date with wireless/mobile systems technology development and trends.
Timely provision of progress reports, following the attendance of meetings and resulting from other activities undertaken as appropriate.
All work is to be of a professional standard, paying due regard to safety, efficiency, cost effectiveness, time scales and the needs of the company.
Skills and experience
A degree in Computer Science, Electronics, Natural Science, Mathematics, Engineering or any related discipline (an equivalent period of industrial experience may be substituted).
Between 5 and 8 years experience in software development for embedded applications and/or protocols.
Experience of a variety of projects and developments in the fields of Real-Time Software, Multi-Tasking Systems or Communications Protocols.
Proficient in C/C++ programming language.
Good experience in real time embedded software and familiar with software debugging tools.
Experience in any of the following is highly desirable: Mobile Telecoms Protocols, RTOS, ARM Microprocessors, Device drivers (ISR's), working with test equipment in a laboratory environment, integration testing.
Preference will be given to candidates who have 'A' level mathematics at grade A or B and experience in designing and developing GSM, GPRS or UMTS systems.
A competent level of presentation, communication and planning skills.
Self motivation and ability to work alone, managing own work and setting sensible priorities according to perceived requirements.
Able to take responsibility for technical decisions.
Analytical and logical thinking capability.
A good understanding of documentation requirements.
