Senior Software Engineer - Process Control Ref ANO61
Main purpose of job
Working as a Senior Engineer 2, the job's main purpose is to support activities in the global telecommunications Software Process Control arena by assisting in the devising, maintaining and organising processes and tools, developing and maintaining the standards, procedures and writing practices that control and guide the software development process.
Key functions
The main tasks expected to be performed include, but are not limited to:-
Carry out, with minimal supervision, process control activities.
To assist in devising, maintaining and organising the processes and tools through which software is developed.
To assist in developing and maintaining the standards, procedures and working practices that control and guide the software development process in conjunction with the Process Control Manager.
To assist in evaluating and selecting the software tools which are used in the development process in association with the software team.
To conduct periodic internal auditing of the software department to ensure that they are complying with the chosen software process.
To assist in the construction and maintenance the Telecoms section of the Intranet site and the information that is displayed on it, with particular emphasis on the publishing of standards, procedures and working practices.
To be a technical authority in one or more specialist areas.
To keep abreast of new developments and techniques in the field of software process control and software process control tools.
Timely provision of progress reports following the attendance of meetings and resulting from other activities undertaken as appropriate.
All work is to be of a professional standard, paying due regard to safety, efficiency, cost effectiveness, time scales and the needs of the company.
Skills and experience
A degree in Computer Science, Electronics, Natural Science, Mathematics, Engineering or any engineering discipline (an equivalent period of industrial experience may be substituted).
Between 8 - 12 years experience of real-time software development and software process control/Quality Assurance.
Significant experience of a large number of projects and development in a multi-platform environment, including PC platform.
Competent in C/C++ (MS development Studio preferred)
1 + years Perl scripting
1 + years Clearcase
A clear understanding of the software development process gained in an ISO9001 environment.
A competent level of presentation, communication and planning skills.
Self motivation and ability to work alone, managing own work and setting sensible priorities according to perceived requirements.
Strong Analytical and logical thinking capability.
A good understanding of documentation requirements.
Ability to learn and implement Corporate business philosophies.
